HIS & HER DIY JEAN SHORTS

Look at us being all coupley and matching! The Glastonbury Festival is this week, and Graeme and I and some friends are going. I've wanted to go forever, and I'm so excited! And for once (potentially a first?) I've actually started packing and getting organized in advance. I've got hand sanitizer, blister plasters, torches, sunscreen. My Diana F is loaded and ready to go. I feel so prepared.

As for what I'll be brining clothes-wise, this is a British festival after all, and I've been to enough of them to have learnt the lesson of how unpredictable the weather can be. Flashback to T in the Park 2007, when it rained so much the whole campsite turned into a mud bath, and then the sun came out the next day and we all got sunburned. So while I'm packing a few more practical items, I'm still hoping for sunshine and wanted to get a pair of black shorts. But after a failed shopping trip where I tried on a bunch and liked none, I decided to make my own out of an old pair of jeans I already had.
I made these by using a pair of shorts I already have as a template. I find that the easiest way of doing this is by wearing the shorts on top of the jeans you're about to cut, marking with pins where they end and cutting about an inch below that (for the rolled up variety--if you just want cut offs then just cut along your marks). Take everything off (keeping the pins in), and then roll them up using the pins as a guide, pin in place and sew. It feels a bit silly putting your shorts on over your jeans, but I feel it leaves a lot less room for error, and my chances of cutting my shorts too short and ruining them decrease drastically. And while I was working away on my shorts, Graeme showed up with an old holey pair of jeans wanting jean shorts too. So here we are, matchin' away, ready for Glasto!
